Long Term Forex Trading: How You Can Trade Forex Long-Term

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Beginning forex traders often focus on the quick money that can be made with short-term trading, but the reality is this: long term trading is often as profitable, or even more so, as compared to short term trading. You don’t have to sacrifice your sanity to be a successful forex trader. You are not required to follow the example of so many other praticioners of the forex craft. One could be run ragged if you do.

Indeed, a fair number of traders — some would say far too many — participate in forex market four or more times per week, or even many times each and every day. It is useful to point out long range forex trading can easily be more profitable than short term trading. Even one long-term position may possibly bring a great deal more profit than one hundred smaller positions.

Make no mistake: short-term forex trading is mentally taxing even when things are going well. Why is this? One must think and react swiftly to market shifts and changes. One must always be wary of one’s trading platform going offline for some period of time — wreaking havoc on a short-term position — and for longer trades, this is largely a non-issue.

It is for this reason that it is advisable to trade one-hour or four-hour charts, which will yield ample time to consider your positions. One may be at ease if he or she is not continually making trades throughout the day. If you are ready to follow a more laid-back approach, you can choose a long range view.

This might be the right course for you if you have other commitments and yet would like to participate in the forex markets and even earn a living in them. How do you do it? You hold out for the right scenario and hang onto it until your particular goal is reached. You are thus able to go at your own pace, at that which is comfortable for making your own decisions at the time and frequency of your own choosing.

Therefore, cast aside the notion that the forex trader must be incessantly active in the markets is he or she wishes to make money in it. Not only can long-term trading lead to a calmer existence, it is far less risky and can be more profitable than short-term forex trading.
